Nominated for the Spirit of Dedication: Best Website at current EuroCon.

logo_zoryana-fortetsya.gifWebsite of Zoryana Fortetsya (Star Fortress) literary union was launched on 1 September 2008. Main aim of the site is to serve as a place for the Ukrainian-language science fiction and fantasy story contest.

Duration of contests is 5 to 7 weeks and they are run twice a year. So far nine contests have taken place on the website with 340 stories submitted. Over 50 of them were published in literary magazines of Ukraine and abroad. In early 2013 the Tenth Jubilee Contest has been launched with summing up of its results at the Eurocon 2013.

Apart from the contest the site runs four large sections.

“Literary Process” provides its readers with educational and polemic materials devoted to literary skills and trends of present-day science fiction and fantasy.

“Science Fiction and Fantasy News” tells of the most interesting literary events in Ukraine and in the world. Newsletters like OLDNews (Ukrainian SF&F news from Dmitry Gromov and Oleg Ladyzhensky) and UUSFF News (All-Ukrainian Union of Science Fiction and Fantasy bulletin) are posted in this section as well as announcements of new books, festivals, presentations and other cultural events of the SF&F world.

“Master Class” is devoted to literary union activities. Starting from 2010 master class is run after each contest where 6 to 8 stories are brought up. These master classes are run by reputable science fiction and fantasy authors and critics. Thus at different times Maria Galina, Illya Strongowski, Andrey Valentinov, Volodymyr Arenev and Volodymyr Yeshkilev were the Masters. Henry Lion Oldie will be running master class at the Eurocon 2013. Reviews of the past events, educational materials and videos of seminars are posted at this section.

And finally, “Authors’ Column” provides blog space for our participants.

“Manticore” sub-domain is devoted to story contest run by the eponymous science fiction and fantasy festival. This contest is run annually. Since 2011 two contests took place with over 150 stories submitted. Two almanacs were published with best works of the “Manticore” contests.

A number of our participants – Kateryna Bulakh, Dmytro Kuzmenko, Ulyana Halych, Olga Kay, Roman Rositsky – have their first solo books published. Myroslava Zamoyska (Dara Korniy) and Vladyslav Ivchenko won Koronatsiya Slova (2010) and Portal (2012) awards. And the winner of our very first contest Maria Ryapolova earned the ESFS Encouragement Award in 2011.
